Avery Brown Week 06 Journal

Avery Brown, Week 06 Journal

This week was not as successful as previous weeks.  I only beat my hours goal by a hair.  I spent a lot of time doing scene set up in Maya, which is necessary, but not rewarding.  I feel like I have a million things left to do, and more only keep getting added on top.

I have tested rendering the scene.  As it stands, I can render one frame at ultra high quality in 3 minutes.  When there is more going on in the scene, it will get much higher.

Noise threshold of 0.002, high quality irradiance map and light cache: 3 minutes and 34 seconds.

It seems likely that we will use multi-pass compositing to insert animated objects into our 100 or so static cameras.  The remaining 20 or so will likely not be multi-pass as it is not required.  What this will allow us to do, is to push the render quality very high and then only render a single frame at that high quality.  The multi-pass will allow us to simply drop our characters and everything else rendered with a dummy material into a nuke script and drop it in almost seamlessly.  Minor camera moves, such as shakes,

I can also render the same shot in 7.6 seconds, but it looks like this.

Noise threshold of 1.0: 7.6 seconds

On Saturday, Chris and I worked on the textures for the janitor.  While he was mostly responsible, I assisted him with setting up and teaching him how to use udim unwrapping in the texture pipeline.  It seems likely that we will carry this over onto all of our other characters as well.

The control panel is rigged for the specific animations that we have planned and all of those parts are now propagated out to the main scene.

I spent a couple hours on Monday adding music to the current (at the time) animatic.
