Chris Cerrone Week 06 Journal

Chris Cerrone

I broke 44 hours last week and I can still feel every one. Majority of the time was spent on rigging the Janitors face (half is fully rigged and weighted, it needs to be mirrored and then a bank of SDKs needs to be created) and then Unwrapping/surfacing his skin and eyes. I enjoyed the surfacing, it was the first time I did anything on the project that had an immediate gratification feel to it. I spent a good bit of time working in the sub surface layer as well as adding a specular and bump to his skin to simulate pores. After that was done I dove into xGen to start his mustache and eyebrows. I ran into a ton of issues but think I’ve figured out the best way to move forward, and it’ll make it a lot easier to do the hair and shading for the remaining two characters. I also spent a good bit of time animating one of my shots, though I only got about half of it roughed in. I also revisited the ever troublesome beegun scene and blocked it in in a new way. Then I edited everything together again. I spent a lot more time hounding people and repeating directions than I would have liked. But the eyes for our characters will look good so there’s a positive.

Hours Breakdown:

Animatic – 9 hrs

Rigging – 11.5 hours

Managerial/Organization 2 hours

Meetings 6.5 hours

Script/Shotlist 3 Hrs

Shading 12.5 hours

Pros : Surfacing made me happy

Negatives: I don’t like micro managing
