Life before DIGM
Animation has always been a part of me. From the moment I was first sat in front of a television with cartoons, animation has been heavily peppered throughout my entire life. However, before I knew that I wanted to pursue animation as a career choice, I was thinking about going into engineering. I always liked to find out how things worked. When my mom wasn’t looking, I would try and take apart the many appliances that littered our home, in order to gain some insight as to how they worked. I joined the robotics team at my high school, and for four years, I really enjoyed it. However, it wasn’t all that I expected. It didn’t light a flame inside me, or make me more passionate about anything. Animation, however, was always there to remind me how passionate someone could be about any particular subject
Growing up, I was never the artsy kid. I always admired those who were good at art, but I wasn’t able to produce anything noteworthy. At 11 years old, the show Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on television, and I remember being blown away at how the first episode looked. At that moment, something in my head clicked. I remember saying out loud, “This is what I want to do.” I drew every single day for years after that. Pretty soon, I became a pretty great artist, and was well on my way to becoming an animator. I worked a little in 2D animation in high school and worked on my art. Pretty soon, I enrolled in Drexel’s program. Now I’m almost graduating… and while it’s intimidating, I know I’m going to do great things… even if it takes a while.
